It’s COLD. Cold for me is anything south of sixty. It’s still dark outside and I definitely have the messy hair of someone who tossed and turned last night (without the genius).
I never thought I liked classical music until we started immersing ourselves in a single composer every few months. We play the music in the backgrounds of life. We read about the personality, struggles, and life of the composer. We distill our listening to a single source.
And something happens. I feel informed. The notes are more important as they hold up the day. The life behind the notes matters to me. Young kids ears (not mine) can differentiate between composers and it feels a bit like magic.
And of course, I walk around feeling a bit more posh and cultured because; I listen to classical music.
I adapt these composer lessons from Music Study With the Masters by Sonya Shafer which are accessible, easy to use, and profoundly interesting.
